Why You Should Care About Christmas Gift Guides

If you are a product business owner Christmas Gift Guides should be a high priority for you this time of year. They can lead to increased brand awareness and more sales during the critical festive sales period.

You might be reading this in November thinking it’s too late to do a Christmas PR push now as most guides are done and dusted. The truth is, you would be right. But the truth is you would also be wrong.

For many publications the Christmas Gift Guides were signed off months ago - as in July months ago. That is how far in advance some of them work - they have to to be able to meet deadlines and get everything planned for the final issues of the year.

But what about digital? Digital PR is always evolving and changing and this is where it is a huge advantage to focus more on the digital side at Christmas time. Yes, you have missed the closing of the print issues but there are so many more digital opportunities this time of year. Christmas Gift Guides are updated right up until December so you have plenty of time yet to really crack on and get your product included in relevant ones to have a brand and sales push.

Look at previous gift guides that are relevant to the product you want to push. Some might not have even updated their gift guide from 2023 yet - and for those that have, very often they are still updating them for another month or so if they find the right product. Look for blogs that are relevant to your business and potential customers, many of these won’t be closing their gift guides for weeks yet. Influencers are increasingly doing Christmas wish lists - are there any who you can partner with to give your brand a boost this year?

Christmas competitions can be another easy win - lots of publication do ‘advent’ type giveaways where they offer a different product to be won each day. Look for these opportunities being mentioned on social media or even find similar competitions from last year and reach out to see if it is being replicated again. Most of the time these are free chances to have your brand promoted to an audience and aligned with a publication all for the cost of product.

The main thing is to not give up on Christmas coverage until we are much closer to Christmas itself. There are still plenty of opportunities out their to get your brand seen and give your sales a boost - so get started now (if you haven’t already) and keep your finger on the Christmas coverage button until December comes round.
